Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
I want to thank our staff and our community for their understanding this week as I served my civic responsibility as a juror on a 4 day case. It is very hard for me to be away from our team and it's great to be back.
Be sure to take notice of our new "personalized" safety vests that will be worn by all staff while on supervision. The safety of our students and staff is a priority and these vests help you and all our community identify our TEAM. Names are on the back of each vest to help you know our staff by name.
Our next minimum day (not including our Wednesdays) will occur next Friday. Remember: this only impacts our TK-5th grade classrooms. Our Elementary team will be involved in a valuable training focused on providing supports for our students. The well-being and mental health of our Alcott students matters!
School Site Council is one of the most important committees on a California Public School. The SSC is a 10 member council (5 staff + 5 parents/community members) who work directly with the site principal to allocate categorical funds that are geared to support our students. SSC is a 2-year term that is elected by peers (families elect parent members and staff elect staff members).
If you are interested in running for SSC, please email me directly at [email protected] by Thursday of next week. All candidates will then be instructed to provide a short "bio" outlining their interest and reasons for wishing to serve on this committee. All candidate statements will then be sent to all our families via a google document for voting.
New members will be introduced at our November SSC meeting.
Be sure to refer to our PTA announcements outlining our current fundraiser. If your child did not bring home the information, contact our PTA president, Ms. Powell, for details: cell (817) 559-7008. California public schools need your fundraising efforts to ensure we are able to provide the best conditions for learning possible at Alcott.
Our staff parking lot is becoming a safety concern and I will be working with our team to develop a plan that could result in a complete closure of this area to all non-staff members. Families are parking in the red zone and leaving cars unattended, which blocks our emergency vehicle entrance. I have received complaints from our City and SDPD and must follow all necessary laws that keep our school community safe. Until further notice, only staff will be allowed into the parking area. I apologize for this inconvience and know how difficult our parking situation at Alcott is; however, we must ensure the safety of our staff, students, and families. Thank you for your understanding.
I continue to have my bucket filled each and every day I see you on the crosswalk. Thank you for your warm greetings each morning and afternoon.
Have a great weekend.
Principal Lewis
