6/4/21 Friday Update

Good afternoon,
I want to thank our community for working on the enrollment survey.  As of today, 100 families have completed the enrollment survey letting us know if they are coming back to Alcott.  If you have not completed the survey, please take 3 minutes to inform us of your plans so we can plan appropriately.  
Messages from Mr. Lewis
  • As we begin our victory lap towards the final days of school, our staff is keeping our attention on procedures and protocols!
    • We are a team here at Alcott and the procedures we will be enforcing are to guarantee the safety of our students, staff and community.  Often it is the smallest “forgotten” rules that result in the “biggest” consequences/incidents.  Please be sure to follow our protocols!
INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY UPDATES
  • Reminders:
    • We will only collect devices from students leaving Alcott. All other students will keep their devices until August. 
    • Since students will be taking devices home over the summer, the Instructional Technology Department created the following resources for parents.
    • Please share this information on laptop care and digital citizenship with your community. 
VAPA FOUNDATION & SD SYMPHONY- CINDY MARTEN FAREWELL EVENT
  • Join the VAPA Foundation and the San Diego Symphony to wish Deputy Education Secretary Cindy Marten fond farewell. 
    • We’ll toast to Cindy’s success in bringing the educational reforms she has led in San Diego to the nation while supporting arts education in SDUSD through the VAPA Foundation.

FOOD & NUTRITION SERVICES UPDATES
  • Extra Grocery Food Distribution for 6/7-6/11
    • Extra grocery items will be available (while supplies last) at our 19 curbside meal locations on a rotating basis.
    • Grocery Item Schedule for Week of 6/7-6/11
    • Summer Meals
      • Nutritious meals will be available for all children 18 & younger throughout the summer.
        • At drive-thru or walk-up pick up at 14 curbside locations
        • Monday -Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. from June 16 to August 20.
      • Students participating in summer school will have access to the same grab n' go meal bags

  • Western BBQ Special Event Services POSTPONED for start of 2021-22 school year
    • The Food Services department has made the difficult decision to postpone the Western BBQ special event service offered to schools until further notice. While we know this is disappointing, we hope you understand this is a necessary step to help keep each other safe in these unprecedented times. At this time, we will not be accepting dates to secure for Western BBQ events and will provide an update on the Principal’s Page when this service becomes available.  -Gary Petill, Food & Nutrition Services Director
