3/5/21 Friday Update

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
We have had a big week here at Alcott Elementary School.  Our 2nd learning lab has opened and we are preparing for our "target date-April 12" reopening plans.  Your patience and understanding as I receive information on this process is appreciated.  I have observed first hand the frustration and anxiety this pandemic has caused our families, students and staff but ensure you that we will be stronger, safer and more creative upon our return to on-site learning.
Information/Updates:
  • You will be receiving information from your classroom teacher regarding our Parent/Teacher Conference week scheduled for March 24-26.  Parent-Teacher collaboration is critical to your child's success and we welcome your participation.
  • Our 4th and 5th Grade Families will be participating in a Marston Middle School Virtual Tour on Thursday, April 8 at 2:00 p.m.  All families are welcome to attend this virtual tour regardless of your child's grade level.
  • Big News! VEBA Vaccinates more than 10,000 educators in San Diego in first 5 days!  This is one of the three key factors that must occur in ensuring our April 12 Target date to reopen.
  • Our website is going through a “big revamp”.  Be sure to visit the site and see how we are attempting to streamline our communication, so families are provided with real-time updates on our reopening plans and other important information.  I will be working on a Spanish link with a possible YouTube channel that will allow me to provide additional forms of communication to our school community.
  • REOPENING UPDATES WEBSITE
    • The District has launched a  "Reopening Updates" page and I have placed this link on our website.  Be sure to review often for new updates as they are provided.
  • FAMILY PREFERENCE SURVEY UPDATE
    • The District will be sending a brief parent survey to understand our family’s preferences as we continue to plan for expanding onsite learning opportunities.
    • Goal is to send the survey next week and it will be available in multiple languages
      • It will take less than 5 min. to complete and will be due by March 12.
      • Families will need to complete ONE survey per student enrolled.
      • Responses will be collected through Illuminate, allowing district staff to filter the data by site.
      • In the survey, families will choose from the following options:
      • Onsite/Online Hybrid – In this model, students will attend school in-person for a portion of the day/week with fewer students on campus at any given time. When not on campus, students will continue to participate in online learning. Health and safety protocols will apply, including wearing masks and physical distancing.
      • Onsite/Online Hybrid with Transportation - Only applicable if your child receives Special Education, Magnet, or VEEP transportation services (Please note that previously offered neighborhood bus routes will not be available at this time).
      • Online Only – In this model, students will continue to learn remotely participating in virtual instruction via zoom with a teacher, online learning platforms and independent work time.
  • The California Department of Education and Wellness Together present the 2021 Wellness Together Spring Event Series and invite families and educators to participate.  Join the CDE staff every Thursday this month from 3:00-4:30 p.m. to hear from leading voices in the student mental wellness movement, with diverse presenters from across the country.  The series intends to equip educators, parents, and guardians to promote mental wellness for students at home and in the classroom. Presenters will share content to help increase mental health awareness, advocacy, and access to mental health services for our students. Each webinar will include a live question and response session.
  •  Please visit the link on our website for valuable resources available to you and your family.
I appreciate your involvement and communication.  You are important stakeholders of Alcott Elementary School and your voice matters!
Enjoy your weekend.
