5/13/22 Friday Update

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
Thursday is our Open House!  This is a historic Open House for all of us and I am excited to finally see our school community inside our campus.  It has been very challenging for all of us here at Alcott to have to leave you at the front gate each morning.  Our event will feature the Clairemont High School Band, the Marston Middle School Robotics Team, PTA events and bookfair, and a whole staff introduction on the blacktop.  We will start promptly at 5:00 p.m. so be sure to arrive early.  Parking is always a challenge so leave yourself plenty of time to find a parking spot.
This past week, I attended the Equity Conference at the Convention Center with our Alcott Equity Team Members (Ms. Pray, speech, Ms. Worley, school psychologist, Ms. Campbell, school counselor, Ms. Groves, school paraprofessional, and Ms. Scardino, our Ed. Specialist).  It was remarkable.  We were in engaged in workshops and presentations that were focused on our new reality that will require us to remain flexible and willing to challenge our practices so that all students feel welcome and safe.  From LGBTQ rights to students of color, we learned that our conversations must be courageous.  We were emotional, joyful, hopeful, and eager to learn and am excited to roll out our plan so that all staff and families can be part of our district and site goals around EQUITY!
An important message from our school counselor, Ms. Campbell:  Don’t forget to take the very short survey and help our school counselor as she uses your information and survey results to improve our services for our Alcott school community.
If you have any questions about the surveys or wish to see a list of questions, please contact me directly at [email protected]
