3/19/21 Friday Update

Good afternoon Alcott School Community,
Each day we are closer to getting our students back to school and this reality comes with the need to ensure we are prepared.  Our staff is working hard to provide you with a "True Alcott Welcome" and I will continue to provide you with the information on our preparations.

Phase 2 Parent Information for In-Person Learning
The information below is subject to change. This is a fluid situation with information coming from the district at a rapid rate. I will keep you informed of any changes and/or any additional information.
Overview
  • April 12, 2021 - First day of Phase 2 (In-person instruction)
  • In-person learners will be on campus Monday through Thursday, 8:20-2:45
    • To include the online learners, In-person students will Zoom or Live Stream from their classroom for the first 3 hours
    • The remainder of the day will be live instruction for in-person learners on campus and online learners will complete asynchronous work
  • Fridays:  No in-person instruction.  Friday Instruction details will be finalized and provided next week.
  • Families who don’t want to participate in in-person instruction have the option to remain at home with online instruction.
  • At this time, we don’t know if families will be able to switch back and forth between online and In-person learning.  This will be based on availability.
  • All Alcott Staff will be tested for COVID-19 every 2 weeks.
Classroom Information
  • Students will be with their current teacher. A small number of students may need to be with another teacher if their classroom space does not accommodate the number of students who are going to return (classroom capacity determined by Health and Safety Protocols).
  • We are currently determining the exact number of students each room on campus can accommodate while following the Health and Safety Protocols.
  • Students chairs will be no closer than 5 feet from each other (discussions around the 3 feet distance presented by CDC has been discussed; however, we are currently working on the 5 feet distance set-up).
  • We are maximizing classroom space by removing extra furniture, moving bookcases to the side, etc.
  • Windows and doors will remain open for air flow
  • All classrooms have air purifiers
  • Masks will be required
Breakfast and Lunch
  • Students will eat outside
  • We are going to utilize additional areas on campus for lunch as necessary to maintain social distancing
  • Students will maintain 6 feet social distance while eating/masks off
  • School lunches and breakfast will be ‘grab and stay.’ no cafeteria line or salad bar; students may bring a lunch from home
Playground
  • Classrooms will have an assigned area to play each day and will not be with another classroom
  • Classrooms will be on a rotation schedule so that they will not get stuck in one play area/game for the entire week
  • Playground equipment will be assigned to individual classrooms or sanitized between groups
  • Masks required on the playground
  • Playground drinking fountains may only be used to refill water bottles. Students must bring their own water bottles from home.
Daily Symptom Checklist
  • Students will be required to submit the Daily Symptom Checklist to their teacher upon arrival each day.  This checklist is intended to be conducted at home by families prior to students attending school.
  • Students who do not bring the form will be sent to the office for a temperature check.
  • Please download and print the form here: Daily Symptom Checklist
  • We will put a small stack of forms into each student’s distribution envelope at our next Distribution Day on Friday, March 26.
Volunteers and Visitors
  • At this time parents, volunteers and visitors will not be permitted on campus.
  • The school office will be open for any families with school business (picking a child up during the school day, etc.)
Morning Opening, Assemblies, and Other Gatherings
  • All school gatherings will be assessed to ensure health and safety protocols are followed and will be on hold until further notice.
Drop-Off and Pick-Up
  • Families will not be permitted on campus to walk their children to their classrooms or pick them up at their classrooms at the end of the day
  • Teachers will meet their students at a designated location for the first week of school each morning and walk them to the same location at the end of the day
  • Beginning the second week of school, students will continue to be dropped off at their designated location, but they will walk directly to their classroom
  • Older siblings will be permitted to meet younger sibling at their designated location
  • Students being picked up late will be in the office or sitting on the outdoor benches by the main gate

After School Programs
  • PrimeTime will be providing information to families next week
